His doctoral dissertation concerned the impact of wives’ relative income on marital closeness across different cultural contexts. For the research on his dissertation, Dr. Lobl collected data from married women and men living in the U.S., Vietnam, and France. The results of this study showed that culture has a significant effect on marital closeness.
